But most of all, sausage gravy pot pie is so perfect for holiday mornings. When you want a fun but easy Thanksgiving breakfast that will keep everyone out of the kitchen until the full meal is ready, this is the one!
What’s In Sausage Gravy and Biscuit Pot Pie?
This dish is all about simplicity and flavor. Would you believe you only need six ingredients plus salt and pepper?
Ground sausage is the star of the show, giving us that hearty, meaty base. Once browned in a pan, you’ll add the flour to soak up the drippings and help thicken the gravy.
After that, you’ll add milk and then your choice of water or broth. Keep in mind that this gravy may seem a touch thinner than normal, which is to prevent it from becoming too thick as it bakes in the oven.
Finally, you’ll finish off the gravy with salt, pepper, and fresh thyme. Remember that sausage is already salted, so you don’t want to add too much more!
The last ingredient is biscuit dough, which you’ll lay on top of each ramekin before baking everything in the oven. The dough will bake into a fluffy, golden topping that complements the rich sausage gravy beautifully!
Variations for Sausage Gravy and Biscuits
Thyme isn’t your thing? Swap it for sage or rosemary to give your gravy that complex, earthy touch.
Wanna keep things meat-free? Try a veggie sausage instead of pork. You could even add some mushrooms or spinach to the mix!
Looking for a little extra protein? Serve a fried egg or two on the side! Make sure to treat yourself to at least one bite that has egg and runny yolk, a little biscuit, and some sausage gravy all together.
Craving a little heat? Add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes to your sausage gravy to dial it up a notch!

Description
Whether it’s a holiday morning or you’re just craving comfort food, sausage gravy pot pies topped with fluffy biscuit dough and served in individual ramekins are a cozy, savory delight!
Ingredients
1 pound (16 oz) ground sausage
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1 cup water or broth
½ teaspoon thyme (adjust to taste)
6 pieces of biscuit dough
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F. In a large skillet, cook the ground sausage over medium heat, using a spatula to break it into small pieces as it cooks. Continue cooking until the sausage is browned and cooked through.
- Once the sausage is cooked, reduce the heat to low and add the flour. Stir it into the sausage, then allow the flour to cook for a minute or two.
- Slowly pour in the milk and water while stirring constantly to create a smooth, creamy consistency. We want the gravy a touch thinner than normal since we will be baking it in the oven
- Season the gravy with thyme, salt, and pepper to taste. Remember that the sausage already has some salt, so be cautious not to over-salt the gravy.
- Continue cooking and stirring for a few more minutes until the gravy is heated through and thickened to your liking.
- Spoon the gravy into 6 ramekins and top each one with a piece of biscuit dough. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes. Serve with fresh herbs and enjoy!
