Maple Chai Pear Scones
1 cup diced pear
1 cup AP flour
1 cup bread flour
1 egg
½ cup milk
1 T dark maple syrup
1 T chai masala powder (I like spicewalla)
1 T baking powder
1 tsp kosher salt
5 T cold butter, cut into chunks
Glaze
½ cup confectioners sugar
3 T dark maple sugar
2 tsp chai masala
¼ tsp kosher salt
1 T water
Instructions
- Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
- Add the butter and quickly work through your hands to turn the butter into the flour until you have small pea-sized pieces of butter.
- Add the pears and stir.
- Combine the wet ingredients, fold into the dry mixture, and turn the dough out onto a floured surface.
- Fold the dough over 2-3 times, then pat to an inch-thick round disc.
- Cut into 8 triangles and transfer to a baking sheet.
- Chill for 30 minutes. Near the end of the chilling time, preheat the oven to 400F.
- Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
